Halloween is approaching and this is a great time to shower the ones you love with an unexpected gift. Who wouldn’t love to get a surprise Boo-basket or a bag full of spook-tacular Halloween themed treats?

Make one of these for your romantic partner or for your group of gal-pals! The best thing about creating a DIY Boo-basket is you can personalize it to fit the recipient(s).

Before you start planning your Boo-baskets, or bags, read through our Buyer’s Guide for some tips. Next look through our Top 10 Halloween Gift Basket Inspiration Ideas. Both of these sections will get you well on your way to creating a fun Halloween gift for the loved one(s) in your life!

Buyer’s Guide

Recipients

The first step to assembling your Halloween gift basket or bag is deciding who you will be receiving it. Will you be making one basket for your significant other or several for a group of girlfriends?

Budget

Second, you need to set a budget. There are many different ways you can do this. Consider the following questions. What is the total amount you want to spend on the entire gift?

Do you need to set a budget for the container and the filler items separately? Do you need to set a budget for each person separately?

For example, are you setting a larger budget for your significant other and maybe a little less for your group of girlfriends?

Types of Items

After you have chosen your recipients and set a budget you’ve reached the fun part! Now you get to choose the fun items to include inside the gift basket or bag.

It is important to decide if you want to include only edible items, non-edible items or a combination. We recommend a combination for variety.

Since your gifts are personal you can buy only the recipients favorite snacks and treats. Check out our complete list below for some help brainstorming your filler items.

Baskets or Bags

You’re almost there. Now all you have left is to choose a boo-tiful container to hold all the filler items. A plastic trick-or-treat bucket in their favorite color, a plastic cauldron, a Halloween gift bag, or a festive basket will work well.

Choose the size and shape to suit your needs. Bonus points if you can add their name or personalize the container in some way!

If you need to mail the gift, consider using a decorative metal tin with a lid. This will keep all the items inside nice and secure. They are also very lightweight making them ideal for mailing. During Halloween retailers often display these with the holiday baking items.

Our favorite places to find containers are craft stores, Target, Amazon and your local big box store. There are a variety offered across all price points, so there should be something for everyone.

Card

Finish off the gift with a card or note. It could be funny and silly with lots of jokes, or heartfelt and romantic about why they’re your “Boo.” Add a print out of a recent photo or a previous Halloween together as an extra special touch .

That’s it. You did it! Now you can deliver your Boo-basket to your girlfriend or group of girlfriends. Happy Halloween!
